Overlooking the town from their offices atop the hill, Port Orchard officials work to preserve a sense of community – from the farms inland to the marinas lining the Peninsula. City Hall is located right in the heart of the town. To find it, listen for the clock tower that chimes on the half hour. The historic downtown area boasts a variety of quaint shops and exceptional restaurants, and from the marina across the inlet, the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard is visible beneath a majestic view of the Olympic Mountains. |
The marinas in Port Orchard provide plenty of opportunities for boaters to enjoy a day out on the water. Many boats and visitors come to town from near and far – including some from British Columbia and Alaska. A waterfront park near the marina is a wonderful venue for concerts, festivals, the Seagull Calling Contest and the Fathoms o’ Fun Festival. The connecting boardwalk is lined with cozy antique shops each with its own unique items.
Two ferries serve Port Orchard – a passenger ferry to Bremerton and the Southworth/Vashon ferry travels to Seattle. In addition to the waterfront park, there are several other parks including the South Kitsap Community Park along Jackson Street and the Manchester State Park, which has public camping areas. All of this and more is available to residents looking for a small town to call home.
